Description

Redevelopment of Lewis Cubitt’s1852 Station has been a 10 year project that will enable the station to cope with over 50million passengers a year. Along with the new Northern Ticket Hall, which Pyramid Builders Ltd completed as part of a separate project with Balfour Beatty, Pyramid Builders Ltd has been renovating the Western Range of the main station concourse. An entire section of the Western Range was destroyed in 1941 during the war, and remained as a void ever since.

Pyramid Builders Ltd have reformed the façade to match in with the adjacent elevations, forming new flat arches, cornices and coping details. Within the Western Range, numerous internal and external repair works have been completed; infilling existing openings, cornice strengthening, parapet restraints, internal pier strengthening and works to chimney flues. Pyramid Builders Ltd’s skilled operatives have developed methods of working that combine modern techniques with 19th century craftsmanship to ensure a finish sympathetic with the existing brickwork.
